On Sunday 15th. September the Society will be participating in Swansea's 'Open House Day' when the citizens of Swansea are invited to visit the Marina Towers site between the hours of 11 am and 4 pm.
During the Winter and Spring months of October through to March, members of the public are given the opportunity to view the wonders of the Night Sky through the Society's 20" Shafer-Maksutov telescope at the Society's 'Star Parties'. These events are organised monthly for a Friday that is closest to the First Quarter phase of the Moon so that, weather permitting, the more spectacular views of the lunar surface are available. Come and 'look into a lunar crater'!
There is no admission charge to these events, but all donations are gratefully appreciated as these enable the Society to continue to extend its facilities for the benefit of members and visitors alike.
The Star Parties will take place on the following Fridays - October 10th.,November 7th. and December 5th. in 2008 and January 2nd., February 6th and March 6th. in 2009
Each evening starts at 7.00 pm and continues until 8.30 pm.
For those members of the public who are unable to climb the 76 steps to the observatory, the Society will endeavor to transmit the telescope's eyepiece images to the 2 metre square screen located in ground floor lecture theatre.
Several other telescopes will be erected at ground level for the further enjoyment of other night sky objects: planets, nebulae, galaxies and star clusters. When possible, talks will be provided where you can learn about the planets and/or the stars.
